So Distracted

I had the best of intentions for today, but just could not focus. I meant to write at least half of my last paper, but instead just found the articles, neglected to read them, and bought a trip to Scotland. I'll get to that in a bit.

I spent all day on campus as usual, then came home and had lovely Kraft macaroni and cheese. I also made some cookies tonight, so I finally have something sweet again. Everyone else is out pubbing right now, but I stayed home to do some work. Well, I didn't actually get any done, but at least I'll be able to get up extra early so I can get in to the library and get a good seat. It's so ridiculously crowded there that after 10 or 10:30 in the morning there are no seats. Period. I'm going in right when it opens to hopefully actually write this thing.

So the Scotland news: one of my most desired trips is to go see Skara Brae in the Orkney Islands, and we're not going there during our U.K. trip in a couple of weeks. Today, while not doing work, I went back to this tour site that I found a while ago and looked back at their 5 day tour of the Orkney Islands and the Highlands. And then I paid for it. Ahh!!! I had the worst butterflies, but I'm so excited at the same time. It's a backpacking kind of tourist group, where everyone pitches in to the "kitty" and then we all cook together each night and for breakfast. The bus driver buys the groceries as long as the rest of the people on the tour cook and clean. I don't know how many people will be on the trip, but most of them are single travelers like me. It's quite safe, please don't worry Mom and Dad. I have been thinking about it since I found the site in February. It starts May 15, but depending on when I visit Martha and Jack I might be going there straight from the U.K. I dunno yet.

Other news: well, I made Aine a fluffernutter sandwich last night. Like before, she was really nervous, so I told her I would eat it if she didn't like it. After one bite, she declared that she liked it and ate the rest. I'm starting to feel less like an American now when I walk the streets because now I'm not the only one wearing sunglasses. In the library, you can tell people's nationalities because of their computer plugs. I sat next to another American today, and I could only tell because he also had an adapter (we didn't speak at all). I just watched The Proposal for the third or fourth time with my American roommates and their friends, since I wasn't doing anything else. It was just as great as every other time. Um, I think that's about it.

So good night. I'm tired!

  1. Oh, you're so lucky to be visiting all those places. Maybe, when Dad and I retire....

You'll take lots of pictures, right?

    Love you,
    Mom
