Connemara, Take Two

Today was a lovely, relaxing day. I certainly haven't done much, but it was nice all the same.

It started off when I overslept and had to rush to get ready for the trip...but that was okay in the end. I still had time for breakfast and made it to the bus before most of the group, so no worries.

The trip to Connemara was pleasant. We lucked out and got a gorgeous day today--no rain or fog or anything, and the temperature was brisk but perfect for hiking. After a two-hour bus ride, we got to Delphi Adventure Resort and met our two tour guides, Dean (a British guy) and Chuck (an Irish guy). They took us for a two-hour walk around the area and then we had that lovely three-course meal that we'd all been waiting for. It was delicious. After that we drove back home and all I've done is watch two movies and find a recipe for scalloped potatoes for tomorrow's potluck supper. It seemed a little silly to drive all the way there just to walk around a little and eat, but it was fun nonetheless.

Anyway, here's the pics:

This is Lough Corrib, which has 365 islands and runs into the river that is next to NUI Galway.

Look what I found--a stone wall! I've never seen one of those before...
Our second stop on the drive in was at Ireland's biggest waterfall.
Oh yeah. Look at that massive drop. It's got to be 8 feet at least--astonishing. Makes me miss Ithaca's gorges a little, but it's cute anyway.
Even the sheep like the waterfall.

The waterfall even gets a bridge. I'm still not sure why I took a picture of it...
On our last tour of Connemara, we stopped for lunch in that blue building across the way. Today, we drove around the other side of the fjord to get to the resort.
More views from the bus window.

This is called the Sleeping Giant. The smaller hill on the left is its head and the big hill in the middle is its body. Can you see it?

The weather here has been really nice, so it's funny to see snow at the top of the mountains.
On the way back for supper/lunch, we stopped at a rope-balance-exercise thing. You have to hold on to the rope while you walk across the wire. It sounds easy but is actually hard (I think--I didn't try it). This is Dean showing us.
Then Chuck showed us on the other side.
Jackie takes a shot.

Then Alice's turn.

And finally, more pretty views from the bus window.

The sheep were all over, even the side of the road and down by the river.

Tomorrow I'm getting up kind of early to buy ingredients for scalloped potatoes and then going to the university to do some studying. Should be a bit more productive than today!

So for now, good night.

  1. I'm glad you had great weather. It seems odd that everything is so brown, like here, but then you are further north than here. I guess I mentally think that Ireland is always green. Love the photos.

    Love you.
