Today was a productive, yet restful, day. I did a load of laundry while I read two more articles for my essay--mind you, that's 200 pages of blah, so it's an achievement, thanks. As a break between the two, I walked to Dunne's and got the ingredients to make scalloped potatoes and some snacks for the week. I have to go back tomorrow since I forgot to buy fruit, but otherwise I'm all set for the week.
Our Sunday dinner tonight was delicious. Miriam and Jackie made chicken kiev, I brought the scalloped potatoes, Alice brought broccoli, and Courtney bought a rhubarb pie, which we served with homemade whipped cream and raspberries. Yeah, it was that good. Bet you're all jealous. I think it was honestly my favorite Sunday potluck so far.
After eating, we played spoons, the "Hand Game," and BS. Since I got back I've just been talking to people from home and researching grad schools. So far, I'm just trying to narrow down a basic list of which ones have a program that sounds like what I want to study. Next fall will be wonderful, what will all the applications and GREs and so much to do. Ugh.
Tonight is the start of RAG week, which is a NUIG tradition which started out as a fundraising week but ended up being the week when everyone on campus is drunk for seven days straight. It's so bad that the college bar is closed all week to try to dissuade drinking and the college isn't recognizing it as a function. Last year some students were arrested in town being they were doing stupid drunk things and it makes everyone here look horrible. But believe me, the students are still doing it this year. I saw some guys having a picnic in the courtyard today, but when I looked closer, I realized there was no food. Oh, it's definitely still happening, whether or not the college condones it. I plan to stay holed up in my room or in the library and get some work done while everyone else is trashed out of their minds. I already told my friends that I don't want to hang out with them and all the other drunk people, so it'll be a bit of a lonely week since I'm the only non-drinker.
Other than that (and lower attendance in classes, I'm sure), this week should be the same as normal. I'm going a little stir-crazy and really want to go somewhere this weekend, but we'll see if my friends are sober enough to remember what a bus ticket is. I guess I'll just have to see what happens. So on that sobering note (heh...pun intended), good night.

It should be a good week to do all those things you've been putting off. Is there a library where you could sign out some books you've wanted to read?
ReplyDeleteIt is in the high 4os here for most of the week! The snow is melting quickly! Hopefully, we don't get anymore.
Love you,
Mom
