Oh man. Today was the (un)official start of RAG week, and the students here are going all out. It was a definite minority who showed up to classes, and many of us who attended were either American or older students (adults coming back for another degree and such).
It's spread all over too. I went to classes then studied in the library until 7 p.m., but instead of walking straight home I had to go to Dunne's to buy some fruit for lunches. Of course, that meant that I got to sample the lovely sidewalks filled with drunken, tripping people, broken glass, and alcohol spilled everywhere. Isn't Galway just beautiful?
Besides that, though, today was good. I wrote a couple of letters, forgot to send them, spent five hours doing research for my paper, and then came home and did odds-and-ends until bedtime. Tomorrow will be long too, since I'll be on campus from 9 a.m. until almost 9 p.m., but I like when I'm busy doing stuff like this. Makes me feel productive and useful. And appreciate being sober.
I am getting restless again, so I planned a trip to the Aran Islands this weekend. Alice and Courtney seem to be on board with the idea, so I'll show them the costs and all tomorrow and we'll have to decide whether to make it a day trip or stay overnight, and then we'll have to book the bus and ferry. I would like to stay overnight so there's enough time to see everything--even though we're only going to the biggest island, Inis Mor--but the cheapest hostel is at least 20 euros a night. I would be willing to pay it, but I don't know if they will be. Either way, we agreed to rent bikes and tour the island like that. I found a list of the sites that are suggested for visits, and it's quite long! We'll just have to see what is decided tomorrow.
I think I'll sign off now to try to get some sleep before I get woken up later by drunken housemates, so good night!
