I'm Turning Green!

Since tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day, and since I'm in Ireland, tomorrow will be special because:
  • Classes are canceled (heh).
  • I'll be wearing more green at once than I ever have before.
  • My face will be painted like a shamrock all day.
  • There will be a parade.
  • There will be candy.
  • I get to sleep in...well, more than usual.
After all the shenanigans tomorrow, I will definitely need to settle down and write my three papers. But until then, I'm gearing up for some great times and crazy photos. Alice and I braved the crowds today at the 2 euro store, where everyone was buying as much Irish stuff as they could get. It was packed. I can't imagine what it'll be like here tomorrow in Ireland's party city.

Today, as Tuesday, was once again my busiest day, but it was AWESOME nonetheless. It started off with in the first class with a guest lecturer who had already given the identical lecture last week to another class I'm in. Instead of re-taking the notes, Alice and I illustrated my notebook with a castle and the defenses that he was discussing. Oh yeah. It's epic.

After that I had lunch, as usual not being able to wait until real lunchtime, and treated myself to a soda with my PBJ. I can't remember the last time I had soda here, so it was nice. Then class, then two more classes, then finally I got to put my pen away. After shopping in town with Alice, I headed home and cooked up some food before going back to campus for a lecture by the Archaeology Society. I turned in the deposit for the trip today, so I figured I'd better make sure to go to the lectures! I don't really know anyone in the society, though, since I don't go out afterward. Oh well.

I have to mention an epic moment from my last class of the day, King Arthur and the Holy Grail. We were discussing Merlin and how he, like Arthur, didn't really gain international fame until Geoffrey of Monmouth wrote about him. However, he was loosely based off a Welsh character named "Myrddin." To make that fit his Latin text, Geoff should have made it "Merdinus" instead of "Merlinus." However, his audience were Norman French speakers, and "merd" meant the same then as it does today. As my professor so candidly stated, "he couldn't make the story about a guy named 'Shithead'." Hence, he's Merlin, not Merdin. Who knew??

I think the best reason why I'm in such a great mood is because I just saw Alice in Wonderland!! It was awesome! Alice, Courtney, and I have been talking about it all week, so tonight we finally went and saw it and loved it and oh it was so good! I haven't seen a movie in theaters since Christmas break at least, but I can't remember if I even saw one then. Not only did the theater have a popcorn and snacks stand, they also had a candy wall and a Haagen Dazs ice cream station. Talk about upscale...or just commercial.

Oh boy. People are already starting to scream outside. It's going to be a long two days. Hakuna matata, I suppose. Crossing my fingers, good night!
