Pubbing Yet Again

Hmm...I don't know if that's actually a verb, but here "pubbing" and "clubbing" are completely acceptable as everyday slang.

Alice, Courtney, and I went out tonight with another American girl, Barrett, to a pub/club called the Hole in the Wall and to Roisin Dubh (where we went last week). I dressed up a little since I got a new skirt and shoes in Belfast, but it was basically the same old story...although Barrett did get drunk. Normally us other three stay sober, so it was interesting to have a drunk person to walk home.

It would seem that going to pubs is becoming a habit for me, even though I swore it off. I guess I don't mind because the music and the company makes up for all the drunk people. Sometimes it's annoying, like when random drunk guys try to get me to dance (yeah, that happened tonight) or when they offer to buy me drinks (my first night here), but the group of us stick together and ward off unsavory suitors.

The rest of today was pretty mundane. It was rainy all afternoon, which meant that I was dry for my first class and wet for the second. I just hung out around the house during the six hours in between. I tried to go rock climbing tonight, but in order to climb you have to attend two beginner sessions and take a test for certification, and they're not offering a new session until next week. In the meantime, I've been webcamming (also not a verb?) Gabe a lot and hoping that the lice that one of my suitemates has don't travel across the hall and get me.

Tomorrow I have to register with the Gardai, the Irish police, so that I am an official "immigrant" and won't be kicked back out of the country. Apparently they give us a card that we can show to police instead of a passport--it only costs 150 euros, of course ($225). I'm getting up early to go find it with Alice at her appointment time, but then I'll have to find it again later on my own, since my appointment is several hours later. It'll be nice once it's all done, since that's the last official paperwork I need to do to study abroad here.

Beyond that, I don't have any real plans for tomorrow. We're going to visit museums and the aquarium this weekend and have a movie/pizza night, but otherwise I should just do some homework and clean the house for inspection next week. This weekend will be nice, since I haven't stayed in Galway on Saturday and Sunday since my first weekend here. It'll be nice to have a break...and then get back to traveling next week!

Anyway...that's really all for now. Good night!

  1. It was great talking to you the last night! I'm glad you are getting out and going to the pubs/clubs. It's a part of their culture and a great experience. And, you don't have to drink to participate. Looking forward to trying webcam again this weekend. Our computer is having some issues, which may be why we have had some problems connecting. Talk to you soon.
    Love you,
    Mom
