The Best Night

Wednesday night...one of my favorite nights of the week. The night when I know I've finished all of the difficult stuff and have only two classes left. It's really refreshing.

We had our weekly API meeting tonight, which was actually canceled for the past few weeks. We're flying to Paris in a week and a half, so we had to talk about plane tickets and stuff. Apparently there are also several students who aren't registered as full-time, so the director needed to talk to them too so they can get it fixed with their home universities. That's exactly why I took one extra class--a just-in-case course!

Irish class was okay today, I guess. The most exciting thing that we learned was that when people see each other in the streets, they do a sideways head nod to acknowledge each other. Our teacher, Daithi, warned us not to try it, though, cause it could easily be messed up and you could creep out the other person. It's kind of like the American equivalent of nodding your head up when you meet someone somewhere to say "hey."

Otherwise, classes were normal. I had a phone interview for an internship, but I won't find out if I am offered a position until the end of February. I would like it, definitely, but the one I really want doesn't get back to me until March or April, so I'd really rather wait to see what that one says. Also, I have several more that I am planning on applying to, so I need to get cracking on that and see if I get accepted to anything at all. I really want to get out of the mall this summer--I'm tired of bagging lamps and constantly smelling like potpourri!

It's crazy to think that after this week is over, there are only seven more weeks of actual classes here. There's still a couple of months of finals and such after that, but classes end so early. I really need to get started on my essays and start reading up for the exams. We don't find out when our exams are until March 12, so I can't really plan any trips for spring break and in May until I know when I need to be on campus. Everyone here talks to harshly about the exams that it makes me nervous--in class, the material seems so straightforward, but since I have never taken tests or gotten grades on essays before here, I have no idea what to expect. It's like freshman year all over again.

We had our house inspection today--and passed--although the only thing that Martha, the woman in charge, mentioned was that my roommate and I need to ventilate our room more. There is mold growing on the windowsills, so that's probably not a bad suggestion. I had to shut the windows after a while, though, because I was just freezing my fingers right off. Not to mention my nose.

My roommate and I were just talking about snow because of the storm that hit the coast in the States. She says that before this winter, she hasn't seen any since at least ten years ago, cause she remembers seeing it when she was a little girl. Wish I could share in the fun!

All right...I think that's it for now. There has been lots more lice drama but I'll deal with that here. Good night!
