Not Yet Homesick...

This is officially the start of my sixth week here, and (knock on wood) I still haven't gotten homesick.

Today would probably have been a classic day for it, since I got a card in the mail from Paula at URI, and Dad called, and things are pretty stressful...but as much as I can't wait to get home in June, I really do love being here. I can't imagine leaving early. I would not want to stay for longer than I have planned, but I definitely am prepared to enjoy my time here.

Like tonight. My roommate, Anya, and I were the only ones around for several hours, so we watched Glee and some show about a pop star downstairs and talked about the lice thing. She supports me, which is a pleasant discovery after this weekend, so we had a good time.

And classes today weren't bad. My friends wouldn't sit directly next to me at times because of the lice scare, but otherwise it was like any other normal class. I did go to Health Services today to get an official opinion on the lice, and the nurse said I don't have any at all. So...I'm still going to keep washing my sheets daily and combing my hair and treating it next weekend, but at least now I have something to tell my suitemates when they yell at me. Like I told the nurse, she gave me free reassurance.

I ran out of bread and cereal this morning when I was getting ready for classes, so I stopped by Dunnes to pick some up after classes. And, like every time I go to Dunnes, I ended up coming home with more than was on my list...Today, for instance, these really delicious "soupful" things were on sale for 1 euro--normally they're 3, and I only get them at Tesco's (another, cheaper grocery store). And then there was some candy on sale. Yesterday, I bought some cookie mix, so I've been munching on chocolate chip goodness all day. It's amazing that the trips like these aren't actually breaking my budget--the unexpected trips to buy new sheets or pay for bus tickets do that.

I've decided that I really need to start working on my essays this week (the ones that are due at the end of the semester) just so I get them done and over with before I have to study for finals. It would be such a nice feeling to have them done before I go on trips during spring break and in May.

That's really all for now. Tomorrow, as usual, is the longest day of the week, and since I have an impromptu concert for Choral Soc, it will be even longer. Ugh. I have to present in Women's Studies tomorrow, but hopefully it won't be too formal since I am wearing jeans and haven't practiced giving a speech or gotten together with my group or anything. The lecturer changes every week or two, so after tomorrow we'll never see this particular woman again...so hakuna matata!

But good night! For real this time!
